PLAY OFFS, GAME REPORTS:

On May 17, Alemannia lost 0:1 against Mellow Mushroom. Against a very good defensive team, Alemannia was unable to score. MM scored on a break away counter attack in the 58th minute.

On May 3, 2009, Alemannia played Revolution in the first round of the play offs. In a close match against a physical and disciplined team, Alemannia fell behind on a lob shot by Revolution. In the 58th minute, Alemannia scored the equalizer with a shot from short distance, after a cross from the right. Finally, in the 89th minute, Carlos Luna scored the winning goal with a header into the lower right corner. Alemannia won 2:1.

REGULAR SEASON, GAME REPORTS:

The last game of the regular season for Alemannia Aixpress was played against St. Andrews XI on April 26. Alemannia had the chance to win the title and get promoted to Premier League. The team never coped with the pressure and suffered an embarrassing defeat. A questionable goal, where the linesman had seen the ball behind the line while Alemannia's keeper got foulded in the 6 m box led to the 0:1 in the 28th minute. Alemannia played even less convincing afterwards. Many individual mistakes and little communication led to the 2:0 for St. Andrews on a break away. A disappointing 2:0 loss ended the spring 2009 season. Maybe Alemannia can redeem itself in the play offs, which will start on May 3.

On April 19, Alemannia played Revolution. The first half was not pretty, both teams struggled to get something constructive going. After some adjustmenst at half time, Alemannia started to take over the midfield and came to chances. Christian Thier hit the crossbar once and then again failed to convert on a break away. In the 65th minute, Anton Berisha passed the ball to Carlos Luna, who scored from 20 meters into the upper right corner. Only a few minutes later, Revolution answered with a goal after a mistake by Alemannia's defense. In the 77th minute, Daniel Vasquez put the ball in from 6 meters for the winning goal. Alemannia won 2:1.

The game of the season, first against second placed team, Alemannia versus Copacabana took place on April 12, 2009. Alemannia fell behind 0:1 on a questinable penalty kick in the 23rd minute. A few minutes later, Copacabana took advantage of an individual mistake in the AAIX defense and scored the 0:2. After the break, Copacabana scored on an amazing solo to make it 0;3. Finally, Alemannia began to play better and control ball and midfield better. Of course, Copacabana also could afford to let Alemannia get better, given the margin of its lead. Alemannia scored on a penalty, converted by Thor Adalsteinsson in the 59th minute. Again Adalsteinsson in the 80th minute made it 2:3. Copacabana held on to a deserved 2:3 loss for Alemannia. Copacabana took the lead in the standings from Alemannia, with 15 points over 14 points, with two more games to play.

On April 5, Alemannia was scheduled to play Strikers 91. Due to the author being out of town, we have so far only unconfirmed rumours to report. What we know for sure is that AAIX won 0:4. Also, it is confirmed that Rich Vosilla secured the shut out by making 8 saves. Beyond that, it has been mentioned by one player that maybe Rodrigo DePaula scored a goal, and maybe even two. Rick Hartker may have scored one goal, but possibly, it was rather an assist. Carlos Luna may have scored, and Thor Adalsteinsson may have as well. It is for sure though that Thor again hit the cross bar several times. As in last game, if Thor got a penny for every time he hits the cross bar, he would be retired to the Bahamas.. :) SmileySmiley (and after additional info was provided, it was Carlos Luna with three goals, and Thor Adalsteinsson with one goal).

On March 22, Alemannia played SCVC. The first 45 minutes were dominated by Alemannia. Philip Prince scored two goals in the 28th and in the 37th minute. After the break however, Alemannia lost more and more control of the game. After an individual mistake, SCVC came to the 1:2, and in the 65th minute, SCVC scored the equalizer. Despite frantic efforts, Alemannia was unable to score the winning goal. Adalsteinsson and Hartker hit the cross bar in the last minutes. The game ended in a 2:2 tie

On March 15, 2009, Alemannia was scheduled to play against Scruffys. Last season, the teams tied 3:3 and Alemannia had to fight its way back from a o:3 deficit. This year, Alemannia started the game well, controlled ball and midfield possesion and came to good chances in the first minutes by Thier and Adalsteinson. However, it was Scruffys that scored first. In the 26th minute, Alemannia lost the ball in midfield and after three quick passes, the fast Scruffys striker put th eball into the low right corner of the Alemannia goal for the 0:1. Alemannia recovered and scored the equalizer by Luna, on a pass from DePaula. In the 40th minute, Alemannia scored again on a header by DePaula, after a corner kick by Prince. After halftime, Alemannia increased the pressure and the striker Thier scored from short distance on a cross by Prince for the 3:1. In the 70th minute, Angervil put the ball in th eupper right corner on a break away attack and Thier again scored in the 90th minute from short distance for the final score of 5:1

The third game of the season for Alemannia Aixpress was scheduled for March 1 against Mellow Mushrooms. MM has been a top team of division A over the last seasons. The game was played on a small field in strong wind. Both teams had trouble controlling the pace of the ball under the windy conditions, and the tight field added to the difficulties. Alemannia had its best chances playing with the "storm" and almost socred in the 15th minute by Watson Angervil. in the 30th minute, Thor Adalsteinsson barely missed with a shot from 20 yards. In the second half, most chances were had by Mellow Mushrooms, but they failed to convert on three headers, of which one missed and two were deflected by Alemannia's excellent keeper, Carl Johnson, and the game ended with a 0:0 tie

On February 22, Alemannia Aixpress played FC Liga at Lake Sylvan Park. Liga had won its first game by four goals, so Alemannia knew to expect a strong opponent. Unfortunately, the opponent focused mostly on unfair and dangerous tackles, which the weak referee failed to punish sufficiently. Alemannia's players were busying themselves with arguing and complaining rather than playing good football. At halftime, Alemannia was behind 0:1, and Liga scored again in the 47th minute to make it 0:2. Fianlly, Alemannia began to focus on its own game. Christian Thier scored the 1;2 in the 58th minute on a cross by Philip Prince. In the 67th minute, Rodrigo dePaula scored the equalizer on a header which he extended over the keeper. In the 76th minute, Tito Diaz put the ball into the net  out of a confusion in the Liga box. At 3:2 for Alemannia, Liga started to push to score, and Alemannia was under a lot of pressure. In the 85th minute, Christian Thier scored on a counter attack with a header into the lower left corner, on a cross by Thor Adalsteinsson. A particularly satisfying 4:2 win against a very unfair opponent.

On February 8, Alemannia Aixpress started the season with a convincing win over Cool Runnings at West Orange Park. The first goals was scored by Rick Hartker with a suprising shot from the right wing. The 2:0 was scored by Carlos Luna in the 23rd minute. After this, the floodgates opened and Alemannia scored almost at will. Further goals were scored by James Rodriguez, Rodrigo dePaula (2), Thor Adalsteinsson (2) and Carlos Luna again, with one goal scored by Cool Runnings. The resulting 8:1 win was a promising start into the new season against a team that beat us twice last season.
