Fall 2005 Open Age
Fall Season 2005 The Fall season 2005 started with a 3:2 win against Boca Juniors on Aug. 28. In the second week, Alemannia faced Boston Fish House, a team which proved to be one of the top teams in the league. After falling behind 0:2 by halftime, the team fought back and equalized the score. In the final minutes, BFH scored twice and won the game 4:2. In week 3, another elite team of the division was on the schedule. The Cleveland Steamers, a well organized and physical team, jumped ahead to 2:0 and controlled the first 30 minutes of the game. Again, Alemannia equalized the score. In the 86th minute, the ref gave a penalty against Alemannia, Cleveland converted and Alemannia suffered another loss in a close game. The team decided to restructure its set up and game strategy to avoid falling back early in games. The following week, the changes began to pay off. The leader in the standings, FK Panteri was beaten 4:3. Alemannia scored two goals in the last ten minutes. In week 5, Los Alacranes were on the schedule. The changes continued to pay off and Alemannia came away with a hardfought 2:1 victory. The striker Kevin Bibey scored the winning goal from an impossible angle. The team was at three wins and two losses midway though the regular season (9 games). The coach decided to further strengthen the defense and moved two of the strongest players, Moiz Bodal and Robert Motz to left and right back. In game 6, Los Tiburones were beaten 5:1, with a true hattrick by the striker Charles Octonel. In week 7, the then-leader of the standings, Real San Luis was beaten 6:1. This time, the other striker, Kevin Bibey scored a hattrick. In a physical match-up, Alemannia showed that determination and good organization make the difference. The center mid, Matt Fischer initiated chance after chance and the defense did not allow many opportunities for Real. Game 8 was against Rovers. Alemannia jumped to an early lead on a goal scored by Charles Octonel. Two goals by Sevy Sucurovic and one by Kevin Bibey ensured a comfortable 4:0 lead by halftime. In the second half, the Rovers closed the gap to 4:2 on two quick goals after the break. But three more goals by Sevy put the game out of reach for the Rovers. The final score was 7:3. Alemannia finished the regular season with a game against St. Cloud Lightning. At this time, Alemannia was third in the standing with 18 points and a goal difference of +13, Real San Luis was second with 18 points and +14 goals. Boston Fish House was in first place with 21 points and +14 goals. The team knew that -with a concurrent game between San Luis and Boston FH- it had to win big to reach at least second place. Only the first two teams were to advance to the higher division 1A. Alemannia totally controlled this game and kept constant pressure on St. Cloud Lightning. While St. Cloud barely ever got over the middle line, the Alemannia strikers found the goal often and jumped to a six goal lead at halftime. Being behind 0:6, St. Cloud decided to walk out of the game and conceded, a very unsportsmanlike conduct, considering that Alemannia needed every goal it could score to make up ground. The final score was therefore 6:0. At the same time, Real beat Boston FH 2:1. Alemannia jumped to No. 1 in the final standings, with 21 points and 19 goals. Second was Real San Luis with 21 points and 15. TOURNAMENT: The season ending Tournament in Div. IB started with a bye week for Alemannia. On Nov. 20, the team faced the Rovers again. Alemannia won 4:2. On Dec. 4, Alemannia lost against Los Alacranes in the semifinals of the tournament with 1:2 in overtime. The game was hectic and very physical. Alacranes scored when Gonzalez, the Alemannia keeper slipped on the sandy surface in the box. In the 40th minute, Alemannia tied the game with a penalty shot, after an Alacranes defender used his hand to deflect a ball. In overtime, Alacranes scored on a fast break and a direct volley into the far corner. A marvellous season came to an abrupt end. But having won the Championship helped the team to get over the loss.
